Resolution Processes
Academic Integrity
The Board of Control (BOC), the undergraduate student committee charged with investigating academic violations of the Honor Code, reviews and adjudicates all reports of alleged academic integrity violations.
Any member of the community may report a possible academic integrity violation via the Online Incident Report Form. The BOC chairs review all concerns and notify the responding student. A student accepting responsibility for an academic integrity violation may choose the Early Resolution Option, which allows for prompt case resolution for students facing a first-time violation. A Full Board hearing is convened in cases when a respondent is contesting responsibility or facing a second- or third-time violation. In all resolutions, the BOC chairs make a recommendation to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, who makes the final decision in academic integrity cases.
Student Conduct
Student conduct violations are managed by the Director of Conduct and Community Standards. Depending on the severity of the incident and policy violation, it will be addressed through one of three processes: a resolution meeting with student affairs staff, a Conduct Review Committee (CRC) investigation, or a Dean's Investigation.
Appeals
The determination of the Dean or AVP may be appealed in both academic integrity and student conduct cases. An appeal must be submitted in writing within seven calendar days of the Dean or AVP's written notification of the final outcome.
Grounds for an appeal are limited to the following:
- New evidence that was not available at the time of the investigation or hearing that would impact the outcome of the matter;
- A sanction that is disproportionate to the violation;
- A procedural error that would impact the outcome of the matter.
Student conduct resolutions that result in a warning are not eligible for appeal.
